A Day in the Life of a Data Analyst Interviewee
Data Analyst⌛
Am sharing my interview experience held on Nov:4:2023✅
As usual : Tell me about your previous project work experience and tools used.
☝SQL :
- Joins - Left join ,Right join, Inner Join, Outer join
- Like operators - Like 'A%;
- What is a Stored Procedure?
- A stored procedure is a prepared SQL code that you can save, so the code can be reused over and over again. So if you have an SQL query that you write over and over again, save it as a stored procedure, and then just call it to execute it.
- Different Types of Indexes in SQL Server
- There are various types of indexes in SQL server:
- Clustered Index
- Non-Clustered Index
- Column Store Index
- Filtered Index
- Hash Index
- Unique Index
- What is an incremental refresh?
- How to Setup Incremental Refresh in Power BI
- Incremental Refresh is a useful feature that can save time, reduce resource usage, and enable real-time data updates. By only refreshing new data, it reduces the time it takes to load and process data. This leads to faster report generation and better dashboard performance.
- What is the difference between reference and duplicate in PBI?
- Duplicate and Reference are two different actions, and they are also different from Copy and Paste of a query. Duplicate will give you an exact copy of the query with all steps, Reference will create a reference to the original query instead as a new query.📚
- What is Query Folding?
- Query Folding is the capability of a Power Query to create a single statement that can transform and execute tasks (such as filtering a thousand rows of data) on the data source side. Through Query Folding, Power Query can deal with a vast volume of data efficiently.
Here are some comments and suggestions:
SQL Knowledge: Knowledge of SQL is crucial for a data analyst role SQL concepts, including joins, like operators, stored procedures, and different types of indexes. Make sure you can also demonstrate your ability to write SQL queries and statements.
Power BI: Understanding of Power BI and its features, such as incremental refresh, duplicate vs. reference, and query folding, is also important. These are often used for data visualization and analysis tasks. Be ready to showcase your practical skills with Power BI, including creating reports and dashboards.
Communication: It's great that you can explain these concepts clearly. Effective communication is an essential skill for a data analyst, as you need to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
Real-World Examples: During interviews, it can be beneficial to provide real-world examples of how you've used these skills in your previous projects. Sharing specific instances where you applied SQL and Power BI to solve problems or make data-driven decisions can strengthen your responses.
Depth of Knowledge: Depending on the role, you might be asked more in-depth technical questions or given scenarios to solve. Be prepared to dive deeper into these topics, such as optimizing SQL queries for performance or handling complex data transformations in Power BI.
Stay Updated: The field of data analysis is continuously evolving. It's a good practice to stay updated with the latest trends, tools, and best practices in data analysis and visualization.
Overall, interview experience indicates a strong foundation in SQL and Power BI, but remember to be ready to demonstrate your practical skills and problem-solving abilities during interviews. Good luck with your future interviews, and keep up the "Happy Learning" spirit!💡📊📚
